It is the student’s own involvement that exploits the ideal environment of AGL!

The Academy of Global Leadership is engaged every day in developing global leaders called for by society, by marshaling the full resources of Tokyo Institute of Technology and, further, in closely coordinating among industry, government and academia, starting with the resonant collaboration between the arts and sciences with Hitotsubashi University. As programs with this aim, venues of learning such as the “Dojo Programs” and “Off-Campus Program” are offered to students, with efforts being devoted to enable them to gain within a given period of time the ability to fully engage the world. However, AGL is not a place of one-way instruction on some matter. Rather, it is hoped that the student will proactively engage in self-directed attainment of the goals of gaining the qualities and career as a leader by exploiting the environment of the “Academy of Global Leadership”. It is certain that the path to them will be wide and clear if actions are taken by always keeping in mind that this is the purpose of the “Dojo Programs” and “Off-Campus Program”. We will be providing full support for such students as well as be continuing to make the utmost efforts to create the ideal environment to this end.

After earning his master's degree in chemical engineering from Tokyo Institute of Technology in 1978, he spent next decade as a research fellow at Teijin Limited. He earned his doctorate from Tokyo Tech in 1989. A specialist in bioengineering, he returned to Tokyo Tech in 1990 as assistant professor. He became associate professor in 1993 and professor in 2002. He served as director of the Center for Biological Resources and Informatics from 2005 to 2008, and director of the Health Support Center from 2011 to 2015. He was also a member of Tokyo Tech's Education and Research Council from 2011 to 2015. He has served as Vice President for Global Communication since 2018. He has been engaged in the management of Academy of Global Leadership since its inception and is now director of AGL.

The AGL Dojos are venues where students with diverse specialties learn together with the aim of fostering individuals to become global leaders. As such, the students studying at AGL are expected to progress as individuals. Man is a thinking reed, and the origin of thinking has a relationship with manufacturing. We can say that by manufacturing some tools or things, the human brain has dramatically evolved. The Japanese phrase "sessa-takuma," which means vigorous mutual learning among colleagues, also originated from manufacturing works. In this light, our Dojo provides students with a venue to have actual experiences and to learn the fundamentals of manufacturing, as well as to challenge themselves to develop specific products and business models.

Graduated from the Department of Mechanical Engineering for Production at Tokyo Institute of Technology in 1973. He earned his Master's degree in 1975, and his PhD in 1984. From 1975 to 1985, he served as a research associate at the Tokyo Institute of Technology. From 1985 to 1997, he taught at Chiba University, first as an associate professor and then as a professor. In 1997, he returned to the Tokyo Institute of Technology and since 2000, he became a professor in the Department of Mechanical and Control Engineering at the Graduate School of Science and Engineering. From 2013 to 2015, he served as a principal of the Tokyo Institute of Technology High School of Science and Engineering. He became a professor emeritus of Tokyo Institute of Technology in 2015. Throughout his career, he has engaged in research and education about Production Engineering, Machining and Manufacturing Systems. He is interested in measurement and the creation of three-dimensional shapes. He also has contributed to the education of design and manufacturing for businessperson and students from elementary to high school. He has received numerous awards for his achievements and his publications, including Best Paper Awards from the Machine Tool Engineering Foundation and the Japan Society for Precision Engineering. He has been certified as a fellow by various societies including the Japan Society of Mechanical Engineers, the Japan Society for Precision Engineering, and the Japan Society for Abrasive Technology.

“Global” means the condition of being in competition with talent around the world, and “Leader” means one who is expected to create new value in such fields as technology, service, policy or business and give shape to it. In these Dojo Programs, such creative talent will be produced with the keywords of Innovation, Marketing, Diversification and Execution. In the world in which thinking about matters and seeking opportunities for action on the global level are taken for granted, AGL graduates thriving in various locations and institutions to build up a network: I encourage you to come to knock on our door with such a high spirit.

Graduated from the Department of Metallic Engineering at Tokyo Institute of Technology in 1981. In 1983 he earned his Masters degree in Material Sciences, also from Tokyo Institute of Technology. He began working at Mitsubishi Corporation the same year. From 1987 to 1991 he worked at the company's London location. He oversaw the development of promising new technologies as well as market development for the company's state-of-the-art products. In 1995 he took charge of new business development and industrialization in the Semiconductor Division. He assumed a leading role in carving out major new markets for technologies such as optical transmission, ADSL, and wireless technology. In 2002 he became the Intel Division Director at Unidux, Inc. (invested in by Mitsubishi Corporation). In 2004 he joined the Financial Operations headquarters at Mitsubishi Corporation. In 2005 he became the Representative Director of Works Capital, Inc. In 2008 he became the Representative Director both of Mitsubishi Corporation Innovation Center and Technology Alliance Investment, Ltd. He manages a private equity fund that handles the hands-on investment and growth of both domestic and international venture businesses.

The power to act will be thoroughly trained centered on the institutional coordination between Tokyo Institute of Technology and Hitotsubashi University

The aim of the Dojo Programs is to train leaders to lead various institutions such as academic, economic and cultural organizations, and the educational curriculum will be formulated and implemented by institutional coordination with Hitotsubashi University in order to widen the scope of disciplines and of the subjects of group work. Proficiency in language is not sufficient for leadership capable of building favorable consensus and of producing results. The Dojo Programs, at the same time as conducting training in powers such as of perspective, communication and action, through t he per formance of practical group work and projec t s as well as Of f-Campus Program, will be a place for learning in practice about such matters as norms of behavior and methods of self-training as leaders.

Received his Masters in Social Engineering in 1973 from the Tokyo Institute of Technology. He joined the Planning and Research Division of the Tokyo Motor Sales Corporation the same year. In 1977 he received a Masters from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University. In 1979 he joined the Australia-Asia Division. In 1982 he contributed to the establishment of an American venture capital firm. In 1985 he established a joint venture with the Schroder Group in the UK. In 1985 the first fund was raised with a total of 3.4 billion yen. In 1990 the second fund was raised with 7 billion yen. In 1998 the third fund was raised with 17 billion yen. In 2002 he established MKS Partners Ltd as the President and CEO. In 2004 the fourth fund was raised with 60 billion yen. Since 2012 he has served as an appointed professor at the Tokyo Institute of Technology.
