Screening Camp for Enrollment in Academy for Global Leadership Held

From August 7 to 9, 2011, the Academy for Global Leadership held a three-day, two-night Screening Camp for enrollment in the Academy at the International Productivity Center in Shonan Village (Hayamacho, Miura-gun, Kanagawa Prefecture). At this year's Screening Camp, which was the Academy's first screening for enrollment, 17 students participated and experienced a challenging and exciting three days.

To choose the right candidates to suit the Academy's purpose of education, i.e., persons capable of becoming "leaders of the international community," 11 faculty members led group work, group presentations, and debate assignments for the students who came from diverse backgrounds in terms of their major, personality, and nationality. The students were evaluated primarily on their interpersonal skills, including communication skills and insight, and their motivation and passion to become a leader.

Being highly motivated, the students inspired each other as worked hard, devoting all their time to assignments, (most students forgot to take lunch as they gave themselves over to group work on the last day), and consequently, they learned a lot in three days. One student said in a questionnaire survey after the camp that the three days were highly productive and he had learned the importance of meaningful insights, recognition of strength, and other people's assistance. All students seemed to have fully enjoyed the three-day camp.

In closing the camp, Academy President Sato commented, "You have communicated with students from other fields during this camp, and it will definitely help you in building your future career. Please value the connections you have developed here, and keep in touch with one another."

Students who passed the screening will become the first students of the Academy and, starting October, will fully engage in the Academy's curriculum. The Academy looks forward to seeing them make great leaps to become global leaders.
